Door Maintenance

Maintenance of your bifold doors

Regular maintenance of your bifold doors is essential not only to keep it in beautiful condition for many years to come but also to keep your guarantee valid. The exterior hardware and surfaces of your doors can deteriorate through everyday use, and also because of weather and other local environmental conditions. This is especially important if you live in extreme environments like coastal marine areas and some industrial locations. Even stainless steel products need maintenance to prevent deterioration in these areas. The following maintenance is recommended as a minimum requirement.

Maintenance of timber surfaces

Regular cleaning of the timber surfaces will prolong the life of the finish you chose whether unfinished or pre-finished. Ideally, this should be done every 3 to 6 months depending on whether your bifold doors are south facing, near the coast or encounter extreme weather conditions.

It is very important that the finish on your bi-fold doors is checked regularly for deterioration, and re-coated if necessary. This will maintain the decorative finish and ensure that no moisture enters the timber of the doors and frames during the life of the product. Normal refinishing is between 1-5 years but we advise to check every 3-6 months and refinish as necessary.

Maintenance of hardware

Maintenance of hardware needs to be carried out as often as necessary to prevent deterioration. However, as a guideline, we recommend that this maintenance is done every 3 months if you live in a marine environment, or every 6 months if you live in a more general location.
